Biography

French poster and advertising artist Hervé Morvan became well-known for his advertising poster for Perrier in 1950. Thereafter he drew increasing attention from his following works for Vittel, Evian, Danone, Gitanes, the shoe brand Bally and Esso. He created several advertising posters for kids, food/drink, household, fashion, travel, campaigns, alcohol, cigarettes, film and music, and greeting cards. More than 150 film posters carry his name, including many for the most important French movies of the 1940s. Morvan’s posters emphasized colorful, cute and adorable characters.

His talent for drawing was already recognized, when he was a schoolboy. From 1931 he was trained at the School of Applied Arts in Paris. Today he is regarded as one of the most important poster designers of his time.

Due to the very general title Sports Poster, a clear identification of the submitted work was not possible. Sports-related was, for example, a whole series of advertising posters over many years for the organization Jeunesse au plein air, which aims to make it easier for children and young people to get access to holidays and leisure activities. In 1949 Morvan designed a poster for the French version of the 1948 Olympic film.
