Carlo Testi

Carlo Testi studied painting and graphics from 1920 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, but also joined political and Marxist movements. In his last years the Italian painter and illustrator was severely visually impaired. His first wife, Fides Stagni (1904-2002), was also an artist and dealt mainly with the futurism of the 1930s and later futuristic art movements.

Testi initially produced furniture, and dealt with graphic design and portrait paintings. His graphic works included a great number commissioned by the fascist government. His later work was seen as belonging to the movements of Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Cubism, Constructivism, Surrealism, and Purism. He lived on Lake Garda from 1977 and died just a few days before his 103rd birthday. Marciatori (Race Walkers) was created in 1930 in mixed media on wood and is privately owned.
