Biography

Polish painter Eugeniusz Geppert first studied law and history in Krakow. From 1912 he attended the local Academy of Fine Arts and from 1925-27 studied in Paris with a scholarship. Until World War II he lived in Krakow. In 1946, he became the co-founder and first rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 1962 he was one of the founders of the Wrocław artist group “Wrocław Group”.

Geppert worked as an illustrator for various magazines, and painted mostly historical images, especially colorful portraits, nudesn and still lifes. His favorite motifs, however, continued to be riders and horses, even after his initially traditional painting style was influenced by modern trends. His late works were characterized by schematic, almost abstract, objects and figures. The work submitted in 1932, listed as Jumping is probably the watercolor Skok przez przeszkodę (Jumping over an obstacle) (31.5 x 42 cm).
