Biography

Olda Žák was a Bohemian sculptor, goldsmith, and glass and metal artist. He participated in the 1932 Los Angeles and the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but did not win any medals. He was named professor at the Glassmaking School in Železný Brod and worked there for almost 30 years until 1961, founding the department of classical mosaic in 1931. He later headed the department of engraving glass molds. Žák was one of the initiators of the new concept of Czech utility and artistic glass. All of the works he submitted were glass art, including a 35 cm high sports cup with matt-engraved car motifs from 1930.
