Kórnel Kell was entered for the long jump at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics but did not start. He first appeared as a successful long jumper at meetings in 1911 as a member of BEAC. In the following year, he placed third at the national championships which also served as Olympic trials. Within BEAC, he also served as an official.
Kell, who with his Jewish background was also called Yehoshe Kell, married Viktoria “Vika” Meissner. They had a son and a daughter. The family lived in Budapest and Arad, the latter now in Romania. Kell worked as a chemical engineer and earned his doctorate in 1913 with a thesis on the formation of gluten. Later, he worked in the oil industry and was granted patents for cleaning crude oil from paraffin and sulphur. In 1931, he lived in Dortmund (GER) and pursued his professional career. He was chief engineer of the Szöny oil refinery when the Russians occupied Hungary at the End of World War II. Kell remained on this position until 1948, when he was accused of criminal charges and detained under the new Communist rule.
