Biography

Tom Milani was a Canadian native who played ice hockey for Italy at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. From Thunder Bay, Ontario, Milani played at the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD), where he played 146 games, scoring 100 goals, and served as team captain as a senior. His 100 goals remains a UMD record through 2022.

After graduation, Milani played for the Kalamazoo Wings of the International Hockey League (IHL). He was a two-time IHL second-team all-star and helped them win IHL titles in 1979 and 1980. He then moved to Italy where he played nine seasons in the Italian league. He also played for Italy at the 1982 and 1983 World Championships and the B Division Worlds in 1981 and 1985. He was an itinerant in Italy, playing successively for Bolzano HC, Asiago Hockey AS, Brunico/Bruneck SG/EV, Como HC, Merano HC, Varese HC, and finally Fiemme Cavalese HC.

After Milani’s retirement in 1988, he settled back in Thunder Bay and opened Milani Outdoor Fabrics. He was also on the board of directors at Wild Goose Bay Cottagers Association and spent over 40 years involved with the camp.
