Biography

Josef Německý was a three times Czechoslovakian champion in cross-country skiing, in 1926 in the 18 and 50 km runs and in 1928 in the 18 km for a second time. He also competed in the World Championships five times, in 1925, 1927 and 1929-31, with the best performances in the 50 km in 1925 and 1927, when he finished sixth. At athletics, he was also an excellent long distance runner winning national titles in 5.000 m (1926), cross-country (1928) and 10.000 m (1927-28). He also placed first in the Běchovice – Praha road race in 1927 and 1928. In 1927, he set a national record in the 10.000 m with 33:22.8 min.
