Biography

After leaving school Roman Penczek started working in the mines of Mysłowice. Penczek joined the KS 09 Mysłowice ice hockey team in 1943, staying with the side until 1950 before joining KS Górnik 20 Katowice in 1951. He won his only league title with Katowice in 1958 and then returned to Mysłowice where he finished his career.

Penczek made his international début for Poland during their 1951–52 Christmas and New Year tour of Berlin where they beat West Germany four times. In 1952 he was part of the Polish squad that competed at the Oslo Olympics, playing in all eight matches. He played a total of 33 matches for the national team and scored five goals. Penczek later worked as a coach at the sports club at the mine where his working career began.
