Biography

Raymond Richez was one of the top names in the French canoeing and kayaking world of the 1940s and 1950s. His repertoire included several national titles, including in the K2 10,000 metres (1945, 1947, 1949, 1950), K1 500 metres (1947), K2 1,000 metres (1945, 1949), K2 500 metres (1950) and in the 4 x 500 metres relay (1949, 1950). Richez also represented France at the 1948 World Championships, but the highlight of his international career came with his selection to the French Olympic team that same year to compete in London. There, he competed in the K2 1,000 metres event alongside Fernand Donna, finishing seventh in their heat and thus not advancing to the final.
