Biography

Stanisław Skupień was a Polish cross-country skier. From 1930 to 1936, Skupień was a five-time Polish champion in cross-country relay races in both the 4 × 10 kilometres and 5 × 10 kilometres. Skupień competed in the 18 kilometres at the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics where he finished in 31st place. Skupień also took part in the 50 kilometres but he did not finish the race.

After World War II Skupień worked as the manager of the PTTK hostel in the Tatra Mountains, a job that he would do for more than 30 years. Skupień also worked for the mountain rescue organisation TOPR (Tatrzańskie Ochotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe [Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue]). Skupień was later awarded with the Knight’s Cross.
