Biography

Ferenc Szamosi started his sports career in 1930 as an ice hockey player for BBTE. He played for BBTE until 1944, apart from one season (1934-35) with the Swiss team EHC Arona. Szamosi won the national championship title eight times. In addition to ice hockey, he was also a first-level field hockey player, playing in the colors of BBTE, Bp. Kinizsi, Vasas, Postás and Újpest.

Szamosi was capped 59 times in ice hockey. He played his first match at the 1933 World Cup against Latvia. He was capped for the last time in 1958 against Yugoslavia. During his tenure on the national team, he competed in a total of six World Championships and the 1936 Garmisch Winter Olympics. Szamosi was a member of the team that finished second at the 1939 World University Games. Between 1934 and 1949 he played 15 times for the Hungarian field hockey national team, among them three matches at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

In 1955 Szamori became coach of the Újpest Dózsa ice hockey team. From 1961 he was the trainer of the newly formed ice hockey division of Bp. Spartacus, and again directed the training of the Újpest Dózsa team in 1965-68. As a coach, he led his teams to five Hungarian championships and two Hungarian Cup victories. He is a member of the Hungarian Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
