Biography

John Taft was a defenseman who played for the University of Wisconsin. He also competed for the US at the 1973 and 1975 World Championships and the 1974 World B Championships. At the 1974 tournament he was named to the all-star team and helped the US win that title. In 1974 Taft was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Red Wings, but he played only briefly in the NHL, playing15 games in the 1978-79 season with the Red Wings and that was it. He played for several years in the Central Hockey League with the Kansas City Red Wings and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, and spent one season (1979-80) with the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League.
