Biography

East German flatwater canoeist Torsten Krenz partnered Guido Behling in the K-2 1,000 event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and finished fifth. At the ICF Flatwater Canoe World Championships, he won one silver K-1 1,000 in 1989 and three bronze medals 1989-90 in K-4 1000 (twice) and K-1 10,000.

After German re-unification, it was revealed that Krentz had worked as an “Inoffizieller Mitarbeiter” (unofficial employee) with the Ministry of State Security (Stasi). He was the longtime boyfriend of sprint athlete Katrin Krabbe. Both owned a sports goods shop at Neubrandenburg but went bankrupt after Krabbe’s doping affair.
