Biography

Austrian speed skater Karl Wazulek won a bronze medal in the all-round event at the 1934 European Championships and a gold medal the following year. He then participated at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics, and was 13th over 500 metres, sixth over 1,500 metres, eighth over 5,000, and 11th over 10,000. The peak of Wazulek’s career was in winning a silver medal in the all-round event at the 1938 World Championships.

At the Austrian nationals Wazulek gained two silver medals in 1934, 1935, and 1937, and was fourth in 1936. After the Nazi Germany’s Anschluß he won the German all-round national title from 1939-41.

Personal Bests: 500 – 43.1 (1938); 1500 – 2:17.8 (1938); 5000 – 8:23.8 (1937); 10000 – 17:28.2 (1938).
