Biography

Born in Stockholm in 1935, Jan-Erik Åkerström took up the sport of bobsledding with his local club Bobklubb Sankt Erik. Åkerström and his compatriot Carl-Erik Eriksson were selected to compete for Sweden in the two-man event at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics. The pair, however, were well down on the leading times after the second run, sitting in 21st place out of 21 teams, with them opting not to start in the third of four runs.
