Olympic Village

At the 1924 Paris Olympics a large part of the Olympic competitors was first housed in a purpose-built village; the Olympic Village. It has since become standard, and Organizing Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) are required to build one according to Olympic Charter Rule 38. In recent years with the spread of the Olympic Games over very large areas, many OCOGs have provided several Olympic Villages, particularly at Olympic Winter Games. Recently, the host cities to the Olympic Games have used the Olympic Villages to provide low-cost housing to their citizens at the end of the Olympics.
