Commonwealth Games

As one of the best known regional international games the Commonwealth Games bring together countries from the (former) British Empire. The first edition was held as the British Empire Games in 1930, while the 2014 celebration in Glasgow had nearly 5,000 athletes from 71 nations and all continents. The games are staged by the Commonwealth Games Federation, which is an International Olympic Committee (IOC)-recognized organization.
