Modern Pentathlon at the 1932 Summer Olympics

Dates 2 – 6 August 1932
Medal Events 1

For the third consecutive Olympics, the order of the events changed. In 1928, the competition had ended with the cross-country steeplechase ride, but in 1932, that phase began the modern pentathlon, contested over the grounds of the Riviera Country Club, later the home of the Los Angeles Open golf tournament, and the 1948 US Open. This was followed by épée fencing, rapid-fire pistol shooting, 300 metre freestyle swimming, and finishing with the 4,000 metre cross-country run. The competition was held on five consecutive days – 2-6 August – with one phase each day. As always thru 1952, the event was scored by point-for-place scoring. Without an international federation, the competition was organized by a sub-committee of the IOC, the Comité Internationale du Pentathlon Moderne.
