Equestrian Eventing at the 1960 Summer Olympics

Dates 6 – 10 September 1960
Medal Events 2

Team and individual eventing competitions were held concurrently over four days in Roma. Laurie Morgan won the individual title and led Australia to the team gold medal. Women competed again in dressage and show jumping in 1960 but were still not permitted to compete in eventing, although that would change beginning in 1964.

The eventing endurance contest took place at the Centro Equestre Federale, or Federal Equestrian Center, in Pratoni del Vivaro, situated in the town of Rocca di Papa, a small commune in Roma Province. The course was very difficult and two horses died during this phase. Jumping and dressage took place at the Piazza di Siena at the Villa Borghese Gardens, which were among the largest public parks in Roma. The gardens were started in 1605, when Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V and patron of Bernini, began converting a former vineyard.
