Waterskiing at the 1972 Summer Olympics

Dates 2 – 3 September 1972
Non-medal Events 6

Water skiing has only been contested at the Olympics as a demonstration sport in 1972, with the skiiers contesting the standard three events of slalom, tricks, and jumping for both men and women. No all-around competitions were held. The water skiing competition was held at the Passader See, a lake in Eastern Schleswig-Holstein. The level of competition was quite high, with most of the world’s top skiiers present, save for American Mike Suyderhoud, multiple World Champion. Water skiing does have an international federation, originally the International Waterski Federation (IWSF), but renamed in 2009 as the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). The IWSF was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1967. The IWWF is a member of SportAccord.
