Biography

Poggio II, whose full name was Polynesian Flyer X Waves Club, was an eventing thoroughbred bay gelding who was ridden by Amy Tryon at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. He was owned by Dr. Mark Hart and Tryon.

Poggio II was bred by thoroughbred trainer Thomas Hunt and raced as a 2-year-old as Chesterstimetoofly. After poor results he was sold as a pack horse, carrying camping gear and other equipment up and down the Cascade Mountains. Poggio II was bought by Tryon after she was intrigued by his bloodlines.

Poggio II and Tryon began competing at the advanced level in 1999 and participated in the 1999 Pan American Games. They later appeared at the 2002 and 2006 World Equestrian Games, winning an individual eventing bronze in 2006. Poggio II retired from competition after the Beijing Olympics. He was not fond of other horses so spent his retirement accompanied by Jethro, a miniature donkey.
