A few motorcycle events were held at the 1900 Exposition Universelle, alongside the 1900 Olympic Games. Until recently, the Olympic Charter precluded sports depending on mechanical propulsion from appearing on the Olympic Program, making a return of motorcycling to the Olympics highly unlikely. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), which has 116 member nations as of 2022.
