Also known as “Finnish baseball,” pesäpallo is a variant of normal baseball, created in the early 20th century in Finland. It is predominantly played there, and was demonstrated with a single men’s game at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. Four and a half decades later, in 1997, pesäpallo was also contested at the World Games, as an invitational sport, when that edition of the competition was staged in Lahti, Finland.
The highest governing body in the sport is the Suomen Pesäpalloliitto, founded in 1931.
