Description

In 1948, at St. Moritz, a winter pentathlon event was held as a demonstration sport. The events of the winter pentathlon were cross-country skiing, shooting, downhill skiing, fencing, and horse riding. The second-place finisher in the event, Willie Grut, was a truly versatile athlete, as he would win the Olympic gold medal in the modern pentathlon later that year.
