Olympedia has previously listed every athlete who competed and placed among the top three in a medal event with a medal. While this (more or less) reflects current medal awarding practice, this approach is not historically correct. For one, for many years only athletes competing in the final would receive a medal. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find which rules applied when, and, if the rules were actually practised (there are several occasions known where the rules were not followed).
Olympedia is currently in the process of updating these medals to be more historically accurate. We have currently updated the following events:
