Biography

Growing up as a hockey player playing with boys, Karyn Bye often registered as K. L. Bye, including on her high school hockey team, so they would not know she was a girl. She played forward at the University of New Hampshire where she scored 164 points in 87 games, but switched to defense with the US National Team. She still led all US scorers at the 1998 Winter Olympics, was named USA Hockey Player of the Year in 1995 and 1998, and later served as a part-time fitness instructor while raising her children.
