Reinhard Divis was a double Austrian Olympian at Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002. An ice hockey goalie, he came 14th and 12th with the Austrian team respectively. Divis practiced judo before playing ice hockey.
In his early career, opposing coaches advised players to shoot high because Divis liked to fall onto his knees. When the butterfly style was predominant in the NHL, he was considered as a stand-up goaltender. In both cases he was considered as one of the best skaters among netminders.
Divis moved to VEU Feldkirch (1993-99) at 17 and won five Austrian championships with them from 1994-98. He then starred in the 1998 EHL conquest and played with Leksands IF in Sweden (1999-2001). He was the drafted by St. Louis Blues in 2000 and played there until 2006. He became the first Austrian in the NHL in 2002.
Divis played in Austria with Villacher SV (2004-05) and EC Red Bull Salzburg (2006-08) before moving to Sweden again and playing with Färjestad BK (2008-09), winning the Swedish Championships in 2009. He returned to Salzburg (2009-11) and later played with Vienna (Wien) Capitals (2011-12) before retiring. He took his final total of Austrian titles to nine following four more wins with Salzburg in 2007-08, 2010-11.
Divis debuted with the Austrian national team at 18 in a 2-7 loss vs Germany in 1994 but went on to win a total of 66 international caps. He was elected goalkeeper of the century in Austria. After retiring in 2012 he became a goalie coach for both the Austrian national team and Klagenfurter AC.
