Biography

Roma’s Guido Nardecchia was an Italian boxer who won the Italian flyweight title in 1936 in his hometown. He went on to win the Berlin International Meeting in April 1938 by beating Poland’s Edmund Sobkowiak in the final, while the highlight of his amateur career was a flyweight bronze medal at the 1939 European Championships in Dublin. He fought for Italy in many international matches between 1937 and 1940.

After a few years in the military during World War II, Nardecchia made his professional début on 30 September 1945 in Roma, defeating Nicola Palmieri by decision. Between 1946 and 1947 Nardecchia moved to Spain where he fought with mixed results in Barcelona, Madrid, and Las Palmas. Back in Italy, he became national flyweight champion by defeating Mario Solinas in Modena on 9 February 1948. He defended the title in Bologna the following July, winning by decision over the Berlin silver medallist Gavino Matta, but Nardecchia lost the title in his final professional bout, on 24 January 1949 against Otello Belardinelli. Nardecchia finished his pro career with a record of 12 wins (2 by KO), 11 losses (2 by KO) and 5 draws.
