Biography

István Grósz started his sports career with FTC, where he won four Hungarian championship titles in cross-country between 1916 and 1917. In 1917, he went to the rival MTK, because FTC did not let him run the 800 and 1,500 metres, preferring his clubmate Jenő Némethy. With MTK Grósz won 12 Hungarian championships between 1918 and 1924. In 1924, he competed at the Paris Olympics but did not reach the 1,500 metre final.

After finishing his sports career, Grósz worked as a baker in his own shop. In 1944, he was shot dead by the soldiers of the Arrow Cross movement.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:10.2 (1918).
