Biography

Dathan Ritzenhein was a distance runner who competed at three Olympics – in the 10,000 metres in 2004 and 2012, and the marathon in 2008, placing ninth that year. He ran in college for the University of Colorado, winning the 2003 NCAA Cross-Country title. On the track he was second in the NCAA 5,000 metres in 2004 and fourth in 2002. He first came to prominence in high school, twice winning the Foot Locker Cross-Country Championship (1999-2000).

Ritzenhein was US Cross-Country Champion in 2005, 2008, and 2010, and was a bronze medalist at the 2009 World Half-Marathon Championships. He ran the 10K at the World Championships in 2007 (9th), 2009 (6th), and 2013 (10th).

Plagued by injuries for much of his career, Ritz finally retired in 2020 to become a coach, leading the On Athletic Club.

Personal Bests: 10000 – 27:35.65 (2006); Mar – 2-07:47 (2012).
