David Fiegen

David Fiegen was a track and field athlete from Luxembourg who specialised in the 800 metres. Fiegen began his international career with silver in both the 800 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2001 Games of the Small States of Europe in San Marino. That same year he won gold in the 800 metres at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Spain. Now focusing on just the 800 metres, he put together consistent results over the next few years, including bronze at the 2002 World Junior Championships, silver at the 2003 European Junior Championships, and gold at the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe. In 2002 Fiegen was named the Sportsman of the Year in Luxembourg.

Moving up to the senior ranks proved to be more difficult for Fiegen, with his podium places falling away at the bigger international events. After placing 43rd overall at the 2003 World Championships and 19th at the World Indoor Championships, he was selected to represent Luxembourg at the 2004 Athina Games, but did not advance from the heats. Despite this, his earlier form did return, as he won silver at the 2006 European Championships in Göteborg, finishing just 0.03 seconds behind Bram Som (NED). After retiring from athletics Fiegen worked in the restaurant business, owning a business in the village of Wuermer.
