Biography

Michael Johnson came to the 1976 Olympics with good international experience, having competed at the World Championships in 1970 and 1974. Johnson was US Champion in K-2 500 metres in 1974 and 1975. He placed second at the 1973 North American Championship in the K-2 10K. He attended Orange Coast College, graduating in 1961, and competed for the Rusty Pelican Club. In 1976 Johnson worked as a fireman for the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
