Biography

Victor Anichebe left Nigeria for England before his second birthday. He grew up in the Toxteth area of Liverpool and signed a professional contract with his local team, Everton, in 2006. Able to play both as a striker and a midfielder Anichebe was voted Everton’s Young Player of the Year for 2007-08. He made his debut for Nigeria’s Olympic team in a qualifier against South Africa in March 2008 and scored Nigeria’s fourth goal of the game. Two months later he played his first game for the senior Nigeria team in a friendly against Austria. Victor played in five of Nigeria’s Olympic games and scored in the group game against Japan.
