Boris Acquadro was a Swiss sports journalist. He passed his teaching certificate in 1955 and his career began at Swiss Romande Television (TSR) in 1954 as a freelancer, while continuing his teaching profession until 1962. In the same year he became head of the sports department.
A specialist in athletics and cross-country skiing, Acquadro commented on the Olympic Games 18 times between 1960 and 1992. He was head of the sports department of TSR from 1962-94 and president of the sports group of the European Radio and Television Union from 1978-98. He retired in the spring of 1993 but gave his last commentary in 1995 during the final of the IAAF Grand Prix, which took place in Monaco.
Acquadro’s natural enthusiasm helped to popularize these two sports among the public in French-speaking Switzerland. At TSR, he presented the regional current affairs program Carrefour and hosted historical programs, and prepared a doctoral thesis in history during this period. Acquadro also contributed to the bi-weekly La Semaine sportif.
