Biography

Tasuku Tsukada was a Japanese politician who served four terms as the mayor of Nagano from November 1985 to November 2001. Tsukada was the Vice President of the Nagano Olympic Organizing Committee (NAOC) for the Winter Games that took place in the city in 1998.

Tsukada attended the Nagano North High School before graduating from Waseda University’s School of Commerce in 1958. In 1967 he served on the Nagano City Council and went on to serve in the Nagano Prefectural Assembly from 1975 to 1985. Later in 1985 Tsukada began his first tenure as the city’s mayor and in 1991 he became the Vice President of the NAOC. Tsukada was heavily involved in the organisation and planning of the Nagano Games stating that “we went through various difficulties and hardships as the host city, but it has been worth it.” For his work he was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver.

Tsukada retired from his political career in 2001 and later worked as an auditor.
