Anatoliy Usenko helped to establish more than 200 sports schools for young people in Ukraine and helped to stage rural summer games across multiple disciplines. From 1974 to 2011 Usenko was the head of the Kolos sports and cultural society, which helped to nurture future Olympic champions from Ukraine, including Mykola Milchev, Olena Kostevych, and Vasyl Lomachenko. For his work Usenko was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 2005.
