Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov served as the Minister of Youth Affairs, Tourism and Sports in Kazakhstan from February 1996 until April 1997. After various other political roles, Dosmukhambetov later returned to the similar role of Minister of Tourism and Sports in the country from March 2006 until April 2011. He had a keen interest in sport, which saw him co-found the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan in 1990, before serving as the President of the organisation from 2006 to 2015. Amongst his other official roles he also served as the mayor of Astana in 2003.
