Roger Henri helped to promote and develop sports in Madagascar during the 1980s and 1990s. Henri served as the chair of the National Coordinating Committee from 1986 to 1990 before becoming the President of the Malagasy Athletics Federation in 1992. Under his leadership athletics took a big step forward in the country with the organisation of multiple races and events including the Games of the Islands and the Games of La Francophonie. Henri also served as the President of the Malagasy Olympic Committee.
