From 1981 to 1985 Gonzalo Raventós served as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Costa Rica. In June 1985 Raventós signed an agreement with Cheng Wei-Yuan, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Chinese Taipei, to strengthen the friendship between the two nations. The agreement helped to promote international Olympic activities, which included the exchange of visits by coaches, sports officials, and athletes. During his tenure as President the Gonzalo Raventós Forero ice rink was founded in 1982 at the Castillo Country Club.
