Brian Turner took up Australian rules football as a student at Parade Christian Brothers College. He got his start at the senior level with Collingwood Football Club in 1952, but a back injury kept him out of action for almost an entire year thereafter. He returned to Collingwood in 1954 and played 38 games with them total through 1957, before being sent to the North Melbourne Football Club. During this time, he was selected to represent Victorian Football League/Victorian Football Association in their demonstration match against the Victorian Amateur Football Association, but he did not see any playing time. He remained with North Melbourne through 1961, playing in 43 matches, before retiring from active competition. He later turned to coaching with Edithvale Aspendale, although by career he was an insurance manager.
