Biography

Known as the “father of sport aviation” Peter Lloyd had a long and distinguished career in Australia. In 1940 Lloyd joined the Australian Army to serve during World War II where he saw action in the Middle East and the south-west Pacific. After the war Lloyd qualified as a pilot in 1955, becoming the President of the Royal Aero Club of New South Wales two years later. Under his management the club became the largest school of aviation in the British Commonwealth. With a lifetime spent in the field of aviation Lloyd served as the President of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale from 1986 to 1988.

Lloyd served as an honorary director of the Royal Flying Doctors for 14 years. He was bestowed with multiple honours during his lifetime including an Order of the British Empire (OBE), being made an Officer of the Order of Australia, and a Companion of the Order of Australia. Lloyd died in August 2022 at the age of 101.
