Biography

Daundre Barnaby was born in Jamaica and attended two years of high school in Connecticut, where he first invested his athletic talents in soccer, before his aptitude for track and field athletics was discovered. He spent most of his life in Canada and gained citizenship from that country in 2012, the year in which he became the national champion in the 400 metres. This led to his selection for the Canadian delegation to that year’s summer Olympics in London, where he finished sixth of eight athletes in an opening heat of the 400 metres won by upcoming gold medalist Kirani James of Grenada. He later represented Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 400 metres, after once again placing sixth among eight competitors in a heat won by James. He was also a member of the Canadian 4x400 metre relay squad that was eliminated in the opening round. In early 2015, while training in St. Kitts for that year’s Pan American Games, he went swimming in the ocean and drowned. During the course of his career, he was a member of the Brampton Track Club, Project Athletics, and the Flying Angels and, as collegiate athlete, he competed for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the United States.
