Biography

Enrique Martínez joined the Spanish Army’s calvary division in 1950 and made his début at the national equestrian championships in 1955. He began his Olympic career at the 1960 Rome Games, where he failed to finish the eventing competition. He then attended two Olympic jumping tournaments, placing joint-25th individually and eighth with the Spanish team in 1964 in Tokyo and joint-10th individually and seventh with the team in 1972 in Montreal. In-between, he won a gold medal at the 1969 World Military Championships. Following his retirement from active competition in 1974, he remained active in the administration of the sport, in addition to judging, coaching, and working as a professor at the Military Riding School.
