Biography

Maham Aftab was a talented taekwondo practitioner who represented the Pakistan national team. In her early teens Aftab competed in a youth world championship held in İzmir, Turkey in 2008 where she reached the final. The following year she took part in an Asian championship in Iran, which helped to earn her a place at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore. At the Games she competed in the <49 kg girls event but lost to Dana Haidar of Jordan after the referee stopped the contest.

Aftab later represented the Pakistan Army and was the national taekwondo champion for seven consecutive years. Despite her talent, she decided to quit the sport in 2015 whilst still in her early 20s. Tragically, however, Aftab was diagnosed with a brain tumour a few years later, with her dying just a couple of months later. She was 25-years-old.
