Biography

Born in Palmerston North in New Zealand, Julie Brougham had a love of horses from a young age, taking up riding when she was four. Many years later Brougham had become a skilled dressage rider competing with her horse Vom Feinstein, which she imported from Germany in 2009. In 2015 she broke the Australasian record at the national Horse of the Year show to qualify for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. At the Rio Games Brougham was 62 -years-old when she competed in the individual dressage, becoming the oldest Olympic competitor from New Zealand. She went on to finish 44th out of the 60 riders to take part. After the Olympics she won the grand prix special at the 2017 Australian national championships followed by the New Zealand national dressage championship in 2018.
