Biography

Whilst working as a painter Jean-Pierre Boulard was encouraged to compete in amateur cycling races during the late 1950s and early 1960s. After winning several races Boulard became the French amateur road race champion in 1967. The following year he had the biggest win of his career with victory at the Tour de l’Avenir, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. A few months later he finished 15th with his compatriots in the team time trial at the Mexico City Games. Boulard continued to race, but did not turn professional after starting a family and holding down a full-time job. In the 1970s he held a license with the French Federation of Sports and Gymnastics (FSGT), winning back-to-back FSGT national titles in 1974 and 1975, before retiring from the sport a year later.
