Biography

Cyclist Ezio Cardi was a leading sprinter in the 1970s. He won two Italian amateur sprint titles in 1970-71, and three more as a professional in 1973, 1976-77. He won five other Italian amateur titles, the tandem and indoor omnium in 1971, and the tandem, omnium and 1,000 metres time trial in 1972. Having won the sprint gold medal at the 1971 Mediterranean Games, he failed to collect a medal at the 1972 München Olympics. Cardi spent six years as a professional from October 1972 until 1978. He competed in five World Track Championships, with a bronze medal at San Sebastian in 1973 being his best result.
