Born in 1925, Ali Çetiner worked for the state railway of Turkey in the northwestern city of Eskişehir. Here Çetiner gained an interest for cycling, eventually competing in professional races in Edirne and Ankara. In 1948 he was selected to compete in the road race at the London Olympics, but did not finish the course. After returning home he won the Turkish championship in the late 1940s.
