Biography

West German cyclist Thomas Dürst was a member of the disappointing 4,000 metres track pursuit team that was eliminated in the qualification round at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The day before the race the team was involved in an accident with a car during a training session. Dürst also participated in the individual pursuit, but was eliminated by Italian Ivan Beltrami in the first round. The same year Dürst won his only national title in the individual pursuit.

Dürst also rode six-day races and enjoyed a win at München in 1988. In 1989 he turned professional and competed in road races like the Tour de Suisse, Paris-Tours, and the Mediterranean Tour, winning one stage. He also participated in the Road Race World Championships that year, but finished 41st. He also rode Around Köln and in the Grand Prix Cholet-Pays de la Loire in 1992, finishing fourth on both occasions. Dürst later became a freelance psychotherapist in Berlin.
