Biography

Julie Smith was an infielder who won multiple gold medals with the US National Team, helping them to titles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the 1994 and 1998 World Championships, and the 1991, 1995, and 1999 Pan American Games. Smith started in college at Texas A&M University, but then transferred to Fresno State (Cal State Fresno). She was a three-time college All-America, and in 2006 was named to the NCAA 25th Anniversary Team.

Smith later entered softball administration, serving as a board member of Teamsmith, which operated 12 Amateur Softball Association travel teams and three baseball teams. In 2005 she was general manager and head coach of the New York/New Jersey Juggernaut in the National Pro Fastpitch league. Smith went back into coaching in 2007, becoming head coach at the University of La Verne, in La Verne, California, and serving in that role through 2019.
